An idea conceived by student Ambassador Andrew Flint (Notre Dame University Sydney) and supported by Chris Timms (GPSN Chair), GPSN and GPN, became a reality on Sunday 12 August.
The winds blew, the temperatures plummeted, but nothing dampened the spirits of the ‘I heart my GP’ City 2 Surf runners in Sydney. Enthusiastic entrants gathered at the famed fountain in Hyde Park to don their running singlet and join the throng heading towards Bondi. The “I heart my GP” logo was prominent on the back of the shirt, with many positive comments on just how visible it was.
Our team ran with varying times, the best on the day at 62 minutes. Then it was off to Bondi Bowling Club for some much needed refreshment, with a BBQ lunch supplied by GPRA. Two very inspirational and informative speakers Dr Ginni Mansfield and Dr Guy Davies, touched on the variety a career in general practice can offer and the importance of exercise and fitness in the community from a general practice perspective. A raffle, a ‘Going Places Network’ cupcake, and it was off home for some well deserved rest.
All in all, it was a great day, with some positive information sharing between the student and prevocational Networks. Beyond Blue, the NSW RTP’s, RACGP and ACRMM, Welch Allyn and Australian Almonds collateral was distributed and GPRA, GPSN, GPN and our Registrar Network and campaigns were showcased, to re-enforce our message that we are with you every step of the way on your general practice journey.
Look out for a similar event next year!
